It teaches that the purpose of life is to worship God and live according to His teachings. Muslims believe that God has created humans to be His vicegerents on Earth and that they are responsible for living their lives in a way that is pleasing to Him. This includes striving to be righteous, doing good deeds, and following the Five Pillars of Islam, which are the core practices of the faith. These pillars are:

  1. The shahadah, which is the declaration of faith in the oneness of God and the belief in Muhammad as His messenger
  2. Salat, which is the practice of performing daily prayers
  3. Zakat, which is the practice of giving a portion of one’s wealth to those in need
  4. Sawm, which is the practice of fasting during the month of Ramadan
  5. Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca that every Muslim is expected to make at least once in their lifetime.

Islam also teaches that life is a test from God and that the choices humans make during their lifetime will determine their ultimate fate in the afterlife. Muslims believe that there is a Day of Judgment, on which all people will be held accountable for their actions in this life and that they will either be rewarded with eternal paradise or punished with eternal hellfire.
