In Islam, the following are forbidden in marriage:
- Polytheism: Marrying someone who does not believe in the oneness of God and worships multiple gods is considered forbidden in Islam.
- Incest: Marrying close blood relatives such as a parent, sibling, or cousin is considered forbidden in Islam.
- Adultery: Marrying someone who is already married, unless the previous marriage has been dissolved through divorce or death, is considered adultery and is forbidden in Islam.
- Sodomy: Same-sex marriage is considered a sin in Islam and is forbidden.
- Non-consensual marriage: Marriage must be based on mutual consent and mutual agreement between both partners. Forced or coerced marriages are considered illegal and forbidden in Islam.
- Marrying for wealth or property: Marrying someone solely for their wealth or property is considered wrong and is forbidden in Islam.
- Marrying with the intention of divorce: Entering into a marriage with the intention of divorce is considered forbidden in Islam as it is disrespectful to the sanctity of marriage.
- Marrying during menstruation: Marrying a woman who is in her menstruation period is considered forbidden in Islam.
- Marrying a non-Muslim woman without her conversion: Marrying a non-Muslim woman without her conversion to Islam is forbidden in Islam.
- Marrying a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim man: Marrying a Muslim woman to a non-Muslim man is considered forbidden in Islam as it is believed to potentially lead to the dilution of the woman’s religious beliefs and practices.
